Storm botnet
The Storm botnet or Storm worm botnet (not to be confused with StormBot, a TCL script that is not malicious) is a remotely controlled network of "zombie" computers (or "botnet") that has been linked by the Storm Worm, a Trojan horse spread through e-mail spam.

Microsoft just broke some major ground in the fight against botnets (Waledec in this case) by executing civil legal action against a botnet owner to get 270+ domain names pulled. While this may not sound very sexy or amazing on the surface, it is in my view an extremely important step in the fight against these threats.

Researchers have discovered a major botnet -- larger than the infamous Storm botnet was in its heyday -- operating out of the Ukraine that has infected 1.9 million machines, including large corporate and government PCs mainly in the U.S. Especially striking about the botnet is what its malware can do to an infected machine.

A storm is brewing over the BBC's penetration of a botnet for a TV show where they sent spam, ran a DDOS attack and changed system wallpaper. Was this legal? If it wasn't, do the BBC have a public interest defence?
